About the Wildcats

The Salt Lake Wildcats were founded in 2025 by Laura Goetz. Laura Goetz was one of 50 girls who started the Utah Girls Tackle Football League in 2015, the first all-girls tackle football league in the country. Laura wanted to continue to play football after graduating from high school so she founded the Salt Lake Wildcats.

Laura did not need to look far for a head coach. She found one in her father, Shawn Goetz, who had coached her in the UGTFL and is the current president of the girls league. Laura recruited players from the UGTFL to form a team.

Under Laura’s leadership, the team joined the WFA. In its first season, the team went undefeated, broke the league’s points scored record, Shawn was named the WFA coach of the year, and Laura was named the 2025 DII championship game MVP.

The Salt Lake Wildcats shut out the Baltimore Nighthawks in the WFA women's tackle football Division II championships at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. With the win, the Salt Lake Wildcats were promoted to Division 1 for the 2026 season.

The team holds open tryouts for women over 18 years old each fall. Please contact Laura or Shawn if you are interested in joining the team.
